While you were sleeping

I wake up in my bed MY BED after 5 months of being in Sunny (not) Scotland.
I feel as though I've been sleeping my Wisconsin life away.
It's like I took a little nap and when I woke up, everything had been changed.
I blink and look up at my purple ceiling.
When we moved out and left the house for two years, we came back and my stepsister had painted our room purple, don't ask me why. It's the greatest question.
I sit up and look around. No refrigerator box room for me! Not for three more months.
I see my suitcase in the corner. Right next to my sleeping dog. Hearing me move, she opens her eyes and looks at me.
"Go back to sleep. I'm too old for this crap." She says with her eyes.
"But Heidi! I am home! I am home! Viva America!" I answer. She goes back to sleep.
I look at my alarm clock. It is 3:00 in the morning. Jetlag is a killer.
I check my phone, the track phone that only important people have the number to i.e. My parents, my brother and sister and my three friends.
I get out of bed and rummage in my suitcase for clothes. I walk into my bathroom. Sweet, sweet bathroom. It smells like my brother. He's taken over as the only child in the house now. Only he's not a child, he's 18 and I missed it. Now he does weird things like jump into burning buildings with my dad for fun.
I don't understand it.
 I feel kind of lost.
I almost miss the pattern that Scotland brings. What am I going to do on Thursdays now? When is Lacrosse practice? I wish I could go to Primark and get a good deal on leggings (2 pounds what?!)
I look around my shower, then I open the door and look around our ground floor, at the paintings on the wall, at the old couch and at the deer head mounted on the wall, the only sign that Mr. Pat has ever held a gun in his life.
I have a sickening feeling in my stomach. Almost disappointment. I'm happy to be in my home town again. I am overjoyed.
But I am homesick again.
I'll say it once and I'll say it again.
Home is where your heart is.
And my heart is everywhere.

You know you're a grown up

When you can successfully identify both your favorite song:

Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

And your favorite movie:

When Harry Met Sally

Now on to ice cream flavours.

Happy Mother's Day

To all my moms (and I have accumulated quite a few)

I love you!

I've sent my mom flowers and she doesn't know they're coming today. Wish I could deliver them in person.

Happy Mother's Day!

It looked like this:

and because I was stuck inside...

I looked like this:

But then I had a great idea and I opened up my window when the sun came past and did this:

And then I took a study break and did this:

And then I realized that I had reached my word count for the day and stopped writing my essay and did this:

And that's how I came to get this (my arm looks much more normal usually in real life):

(that's my tan arm in case you couldn't tell. Nice and toasty warm)

And that's how I spent my Tuesday afternoon. The first sunny warm day I've seen since September....and probably the last.

Lovely jubbly.

Repeat after me

I have to write this essay. I must not go outside and take my clothes off. I must study. I must write this essay. I must not jump into the loch. I must not go tanning. I must stay inside. Don't think about how this is the first warm sunny day you've seen since September. Focus!

I must ignore this:

And focus on this:

Orrrrrrrr not.
